AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

I Know I Stand in Line...

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Figurines lined up for sale at Tyabb, Mornington Peninsula
~
Carry on Tuesday #68 ~ This week our prompt is
the first words of Frank and Nancy Sinatra’s song Something Stupid:
I know I stand in line......

~

We may look the same
We may be shaped from one mould
But I am unique

And I know I stand in line
Waiting for your eyes

I may seem quiet
But I will bring art to you
I'll bring you new life

Yet I know I stand in line
Waiting for your touch

Take me to your world
And I will give you spirit
I'll share your dreamtimes

But I know I stand in line
Waiting for your smile

~

I love your first stanza, a bold statement of fact. My eye kept drifting back to it, wondering how many of us stand in line, each of us a unique island of waiting.

There's something sad about the idea of 'waiting for your eyes'.

And you have it after reading this poem. Did you by chance buy one of these statues? Even the smallest? They seem so beautiful.
