AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

One Single Impression #123 ~ Roads
(NOTE: This poem became a reflection celebrating my 3 years of blogging since 4.07.07.
Thank you to all visitors who walked many roads with me and have shown me many exciting new ones too! )
~

Roads invite some kind of movement forward
Walking
Running
Driving

If
For some reason
A backwards movement is required
Usually it is easier
To turn right round and
Regress forwards

Roads are there to map
To plan
To lead
To ease
To share
A journey

Roads are there to
Cross
(Maybe even jaywalk)
To master a new direction
(Maybe even a new perspective)

Roads are seasonal victims
Burning tar
Blinding glare
Rain slides
Pot holes

Road users are seasonal competitors
Peripheral vision
Gut predictions
Alert to
The context of the moment

But if the road
Succumbs to a grungy track
Some skill
Some instinct for
Navigational staying power
Kicks in
(Or should)

And then
There are those roads that seem to disappear into
Nowhere
An ambivalent closure
Bushland
Maybe even desert

But rather than
An end
A dead end
Perhaps here is
A road
Waiting
To be
A road
~

I enjoyed the excursion through the roads and down the path. Provocative thoughts.
