AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Short Sharp News Alert #5 ~ Writer's Island is Back!
~
In the words of founder Rob Kistner:
After a one (1) year hiatus, we are very happy to be back on Writer’s Island and pleased to announce that the first new writing prompt post will go up •right here• on Saturday, May 1st, 2010.

In my words:
It is here that I began my writing connections! (Rob found me dabbling around in some whirlpool!) And so began a writing/blogging journey that sails home!

A Wild Thing said...

Love the poem below...right now the change is upon us big time. Usually last of March first of April the ground has thawed out and the work begins by throwing on the mulch and working it into the soil. The only thing I plant at this time is the sno-peas, love them, I eat breaky right off the vine in the mornings, yumm!

Then I plant the broccoli and the cabbages, it won't be till May that I plant the tomatoes, peppers, beans, etc...just in case we have a late frost...or snow, it could happen!

I try to eat as much of it fresh off the plant, others I can or put in the root cellar for winter. It's a lot of hard work, but I love every minute of being in the warmth.

I plan on building a small hen house this summer and getting a few hens, I truly miss the sounds of the rooster and the hens laying their eggs in the morning. We had lots of fowl when I was married, even peacocks.

So today I plant cedar tree rows so I can free range my chickens so they won't wander out to the roads...ahhhh...life in the country, doesn't get much better'n this.

Have an inspirational week dearest friend!
