AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

World Teachers' Day 2009
Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ It is World Teachers' Day here in Australia.
Interesting that UNESCO lists World Teachers' Day as 5th October.
~
I wore this badge with pride today.
Even though I felt the stress of the VCE students sitting for their 3 hour English paper this morning...
(A little sad that this will be the last time I give them some encouragement...)
Even though I have a welter of reports to write this weekend...
Even though there seems to be more and more meetings...
More and more paper work...
Even though sometimes I am so tired that I can't sleep...
I remember the special moments...
When one student finally succeeds in writing an essay...
When another writes a poem to surprise me
And it's not homework...
When a magic smile and hug drift my way...
I wore this badge with pride today...

Worlds Without Namaste

Carry on Tuesday #24 ~ This week our prompt is a line from
the 1998 movie Aliens:
We'd better get back, 'cause it'll be dark soon, and they mostly
come at night... mostly.
~
Formless shapes
Like hollow silhouettes
Drifting on the whispers of evening
~
Cold whispers
Like darkness visible
Echoing another far dimension
~
Fear marching
Like heartbeats scrunching shells
Breaking into worlds without namaste
~
Get back now
'Cause it'll be dark soon
And they mostly come at nightfall...mostly
