AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Harmony Day + World Poetry Day

Collage by Gemma Wiseman ~ My little badge advertising Harmony Day today celebrates this day in a sunny yellow font.
Harmony Day, an Australian Government initiative that began in 1999, provides Australians with an opportunity to think about our community's success as a multicultural society, re-commit to continuing tolerance, goodwill and understanding among all groups, and say no to racism. Harmony Day falls on 21 March each year and coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
edna.edu.au and see details of events on Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship website.
Schools in particular get involved by offering samples of multi-cultural music, foods and artwork.
~
Today is also World Poetry Day. It is supposed to have its origins in the 1930's.
But in 1999, UNESCO acknowledged this day.

Dreamtime offers hope,
light and dark share time portals
hand in hand we soar.

Thanks for this insight I was unaware. As a modern society, it's time for us to grow up and play nice with our neighbors. As the baby magpie shares his true colors, so shall we, black and white into the future of the all.

See ya soon...SSS...s

Seems very appropriate to combine yellow and world harmony and poetry! I like your subtle yellow. Mine is rather garish in comparison.

It's a great color to complement an important day: thanks for spreading the word about Harmony Day, I'd only ever heard about it yesterday!

Here's my first participation in the Photo Hunt!!

cheers,

I didn't know about World Poetry Day. I think it's nice that both of these observances fall on the same day. Seems fitting somehow. That's a lovely Harmony Day collage you made! Hope you had a wonderful Harmony / World Poetry Day :D
