I have watched many jet contrails form these same patterns in the skies over Iowa. The winds grab hold and pull thin trails into nubby silk-weave fabrics, shimmering in many brilliant hues as the sun sets. Although it blocks out the much needed winter sun, I sometimes worry that it harbors strange chemicals dropped on an unsuspecting populace, not to mention the toxins of jetfuel.
