AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Summer Soul Food

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Pig and Whistle restaurant, Arthurs Seat, Mornington Peninsula

Totally Optional Prompts ~ Summer
~

Think of summer
Think of cool blue waters
Tumbling onto hot gold sands ~
Usually
~
Maybe
Think of summer
And think of shady forests
Circling mountain slopes ~
Sometimes
~
Yet
Summer is also
A time to dine outdoors
Enjoying a salad
A wine or two
At wooden tables
Beneath bright summer skies ~
It is a time to taste
Soul food
With nature
~
Today I glimpsed summer
In spite of the chilly breezes ~
The tables were empty ~
Almost hollow ~
But the huge umbrellas
Were still there
Folded
Waiting to blossom with
The lyrics of
A summer song
~

Think of summer, and all those negative thoughts that accunmulate over winter take on a very positive tone.

The last stanza is really nice:

"The tables were empty ~
Almost hollow ~
But the huge umbrellas
Were still there
Folded
Waiting to blossom with
The lyrics of
A summer song"

Glad to find your blog too!

Just a lovely poem. My favorite line must be,
"But the huge umbrellas
Were still there
Folded
Waiting to blossom with
The lyrics of
A summer song" .
Breathtaking my dear.

I love the idea of seeing through things to the heart of summer in those umbrellas.

This poem makes me want to visit! I just told my friend about it and she's game. She said, "Let's meet her there for lunch!" lol

Wonderfully descriptive - I liked the repeating sounds of "Think of Summer". Very nice!
