AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Distant Smile

3WW Prompt #LXXXIX ~ deny + smile + uncomfortable
~
Beneath those furrowed brows
There seems to be
A deep
Piercing
Distant
Stare
~
Waves of busy hair
Wing their song
On winds
Bound for
Elsewheres
~
But the mouthline
Draws the attention ~
Somehow
It seems set
In what could be a smile ~
And yet
The smile seems meant
For some inner
Personal thought
~
Like an uncomfortable intruder
The watcher cannot deny
Being left with lingering
Questions ~
While that smile
Seems
Cast in
Eternal
Distant

Sometimes you can get a real "rush" when you break the cycle of "must do's" and venture out into some unexpected experiences which become refreshing for the spirit. This particular experience actually involved a smiling invitation.

Gemma, lovely poem and photo combination. You have a gift! You brought the carving to life with your words. I love how you imagine the why of his smile and the lines of his face. I really liked the stanza about the winging song on the wind going elsewhere.
