AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Distance Breeds Beauty

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Crow on a school lamp post
~
Writer's Island prompt ~ Coercion
~

Absolutely nothing will coerce me to like crows ~
They linger
Like eyes of night
Watching for any chance to
Scavenge for
Scraps
Remnants
Of humanity
~
And yet
I find the vagrant artist in me
Is fascinated ~
Maybe feels
A dark love
For the distant beauty
Of their midnight silhouette
Strident
Against a blue sky
~

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Corella feasting on the school grass
~

Absolutely nothing will coerce me to like
The ragged, doleful faces of corellas
Blotched with

Misplaced
Rouge
Round
Grey-blue
Parchment
Eyes
~
And yet
I find the sentimental dreamer in me
Enjoys watching
The distant charm of
A flock of corellas
Dancing
Stray waltzes
Like wild
White tears
Of snowdrops
~

Love the first line. Beautiful setup for the poem. Great crow pic too. :)
I, on the other hand, find that ravens creep me out....

Gemma,

It all really depends on the eyes that look at things. Sometimes, we are blinded to see the real goodness of a person because of his reputation or how other people tagged him. Like we sometimes fail to see the beauty in some things because we were directed to see its flaws first.

We were brought up to become good critics of things, and other people and even of ourselves finding faults in everything.

I think there should also be a time in life when we should learn to train our eyes to look a things, people and situations in fresher way. In that way we would not only have a clearer eyesight but more important we would have a pellucid take in seeing beauty with our hearts.

I wish you well.

I agree with you. A sinister look and feel to crows, and the corella looks like a bad make-up job.

you know there is a saying in sankrit, that crows are better compared to men, because on spotting a thrash of food, crows do not eat alone it calls every crow around..whereas men on other hand, like if a beggar sees food, he trys to grab all for himself ...
