AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Sour Fantasy

Pic on Flickr by Gemma Wiseman ~ Year 9 collage response to a theme study of war

Writer's Island prompt ~ Fantasy
~
If only war was just
Yesterday ~
A moment buried in the past
~
If only war was just
An autumn leaf
Closing a season
~
If only war was just
A cloud
Passing in the sky
~
But yesterday
Becomes
Many yesterdays
~
Autumn leaves
Recycle
~
Clouds
Pass
And gather again
~
So war
Is some fantasy
Of glory
Souring
Into a
Recurring
Nightmare
~

So true that most people go to war with thoughts of glory and fame, it has very less to do with justice and freedom most of the time
This is a beautiful take on the prompt

Nicely done. The press is certainly not up to the reality.

as long as there are humans,, there will be wars.. we have an inborn need to control,, and despite our best efforts to pretend individually we are not controlling if given the opportunity to be honest with ourselves most of us will agree... we lie....

War is reality - the fantasy is peace...unfortunately

I loved the play on the word 'just' .. are wars ever really 'just' ?!

But were that wars were merely a fantasy . :(

Lovely take on the prompt Gemma.

What a powerful piece that brings much to the surface of my mind. War is tragic and there is no glory to be found in the death and decay that it brings.

There has been war, it seems from time immemorial. As long as there are human beings war is not gonna end!

faithfully fantasizing

Gemma,

I know, I know. When would people stop from craving for power?
for it is only then that war would trully end. I am reminded of the lyrics of a classic song though I can't remember the title:

"Someday there would be peace on earth.
Peace from shore to shore.
No more armies locked in battle,
For there will be no more war."

We could only wish, yes, like a fantasy.

I wish you well.
