Are we there yet? ~ for Writing Companion ~ Prompt 10

~
A map is only as real as
The will to be drawn by the compass
~
A compass is a subversive guide
It never etches frames of time
~
Time is a mystic traveller
Tense confidante of the oil jester
~
Oil is as rich as or poor as
The number of coins in your pocket
~
Your pocket is your message bank
It updates your messages daily
~
Perhaps you may ask "Are we there yet?"
"Please hold! Your call is important"
~
"Please hold! Your call is important"
"Sorry for the delay! Please hold! Your..."

i read somewhere just recently, i believe in the san francisco chronicle that there is a gourmet chocolate company that sells gourmet chocolate fortune cookies... you should really track them down and see if they would be interested in buying some of your words of wisdom... i think the two would be a perfect match... i might look it up later and email the info to you if i can find it....

Comment by Marsha recorded on Writing Companion:

I like your description of a map being only as real as the will to be drawn by the compass.
It reminded me of when I was bushwalking in the wilds of Kakadu–no trails, no roads, no people. Getting to our destination depended on working out a stretch of land on the map, then examining the land as we walked to see how the topography fit. A trap was making the topography fit the map, convincing yourself that this bluff must be this one on the map when it wasn’t. The compass pointed out the true situation, compared to our individual ‘will’ of what looked right.
